KEY CONCEPTS

Stance, Grip, and Follow-Through

Purpose: Build a stable, repeatable body position and throwing action that reduces unnecessary movement.

Teaching Breakdown:

Stance

  • Feet shoulder-width apart for balance.

  • Lead foot angled slightly toward the board (often 20–45°).

  • Back foot light but stable — think “anchor, not a second launchpad.”

  • Body weight slightly forward without leaning excessively.

Grip

  •  Hold the dart lightly, like holding a pen — enough control without tension.

  • Use 3 fingers for control (common: thumb + index + middle).

  • Keep wrist relaxed to allow smooth release.

Follow-Through

  • Arm moves in a straight line toward the target.

  • Hand finishes pointing at the intended target zone.

  • Avoid “snapping back” or dropping the hand prematurely.

Understanding Key Points:

  • Stance is your base: if it shifts, everything else is affected.

  • Grip tension affects dart release angle — too tight = drag, too loose = wobble.

  • Follow-through tells you if your throw stayed on line — a collapsing arm usually means a forced or rushed release.
