COACHING FOCUS

Mental Resilience Under Match Conditions
Purpose: Maintain focus, decision-making, and emotional control regardless of scoreline, opponent pressure, or environment.
Teaching Method:
1. Simulate Pressure –
Play practice legs starting at a score disadvantage (e.g., opponent on a double, you on 200+).
Introduce noise/distraction to mimic crowd settings.
Use time limits per throw to add urgency.
2. Process > Outcome Mindset – Focus players on executing the throw routine and not on the score.
3. Bounce-Back Drills – After a bad visit, the player must immediately execute the next visit with their best possible routine.
ACHIEVEMENT MARKERS :
Beginner: Can finish a practice leg without visible frustration or rushing.
Intermediate: Maintains scoring average within 10% in pressure drills compared to normal practice.
Advanced: In tournaments, maintains composure after losing a leg or missing a key double.
Practice Structure:
“Pressure Ladder” — start with easy checkout finishes under calm conditions, then progressively add noise, commentary, or simulated crowd reactions.
End each session with a “must-win” leg — lose and the session ends, win and the player finishes on a high.
