KEY CONCEPTS

Self-Talk and Visualization
Purpose:
Use the mind to reinforce confidence and prime the body for repeatable performance.
Teaching Method:
Positive Self-Talk – Replace “Don’t miss” with “Hit the T20.” Create short, confident trigger phrases (“Smooth throw,” “Straight through,” “One dart at a time”).
Visualization – Before throwing, picture the dart’s path and impact in the target. Use detail: dart rotation, flight arc, sound of impact.
Between Throws – Player mentally replays their best throw rather than focusing on the last miss.
ACHIEVEMENT MARKERS :
Beginner: Can identify and stop negative talk during practice. Intermediate: Uses one consistent trigger phrase before each throw. Advanced: Applies visualization and self-talk seamlessly during competitive play. Practice Structure: 5-minute daily mental rehearsal: Sit away from the board and “throw” 10 perfect darts in the mind. After every poor visit in practice, say the trigger phrase and visualize a perfect next dart before throwing again.
