Simulation Drills

Purpose:

  • To replicate real-match tension and decision-making so players can adapt before stepping into an actual competition.

How to Deliver as a Coach:

Set the Scene:

  • Use match scoring formats (e.g., best-of-3 legs) and a scoring caller to create a competitive atmosphere.

Consequences:

  • Always attach an outcome — e.g., “Hit this double or you lose the leg and run 3 laps” or “Miss and your opponent starts next leg with a 100-point advantage.”

Role Rotation:

  • Alternate players between “thrower” and “opponent” so both feel different types of pressure (leading, chasing, closing).

Coach Cues:

  • “Focus on the process, not the outcome.”

  • “Imagine this is your match dart at the World Championship.”

Example Drill:

Double or Done — Player has 3 darts to hit a chosen double. If they miss, the leg is counted as lost.

Tips for Coaches:

  • Keep the atmosphere light but competitive.

  • Celebrate clutch shots to build player confidence.

  • Vary difficulty — sometimes easy doubles, sometimes awkward ones.
