Repetition of Pressure Scenarios
Purpose:
To help players view pressure as a challenge rather than a threat.
How to Deliver as a Coach:
Explain the Brain’s Response: Pressure triggers adrenaline — the same chemical released in excitement.
Reframe Script:
Instead of “I’m nervous,” say “I’m ready.”
Instead of “This is scary,” say “This is my moment.”
Practice in Scenarios:
During a drill, pause and ask players to reframe their inner dialogue before the next throw.
Coach Cues:
“Pressure means you have something worth winning.”
“Excitement and fear feel the same — choose excitement.”
Example Drill:
Positive Statement Match — Before each scoring visit in a tight game, the player must state an empowering phrase out loud (e.g., “I’ve hit this before, I’ll hit it again”).
Tips for Coaches:
Use storytelling — share moments from pro players where reframing won them a match.
Encourage players to write their own “pressure phrases.”
