DETAIL :

Growth Mindset

Purpose for Coaches:

  • Equip players with the ability to see challenges and mistakes as stepping stones, not setbacks. This isn’t just “positive thinking” — it’s creating an environment where effort and persistence are celebrated.

How to Teach It:

  • Model the language yourself: Replace “You missed” with “You’re closer than last time” or “That adjustment is working.”

Error reframing drills:

  • After a poor throw, immediately identify one positive in the action (e.g., “Good stance, just needed to adjust your release point”).

Ask the player:

  • “What’s one thing you learned from that dart?” This gets them analysing constructively.

Post-match reflection sheets:

Have players write down:

1. One thing they improved.

2. One thing they’ll focus on next time.

3. One moment they were proud of.

Affirmations practice

  • Get players to choose 2–3 affirmations (e.g., “Every throw is a chance to improve”). Have them say these during warm-ups.

Coach Tip: Celebrate effort publicly, fix errors privately.
