COACHING FOCUS

Encourage Repeatable Pre-Throw Routines
Purpose:
Create a consistent mental and physical setup that reduces variability and nerves.
Teaching Method:
Identify Current Habits – Have the player throw three normal visits while you observe their setup sequence.
Build a 4–5 Step Routine – Example: 1. Place feet into stance. 2. Take a steady breath. 3. Set grip. 4. Raise dart to sight line. 5. Smooth throw.
Verbalise the Steps – Early on, players can literally say the steps in their head until they become automatic. Repetition Under Different Conditions – Practice the same routine with and without background distractions (noise, talking, music).
ACHIEVEMENT MARKERS :
Beginner: Executes same sequence for 8/10 visits. Intermediate: Maintains same routine in both practice and casual competition. Advanced: Maintains same routine under tournament pressure, even when trailing. Practice Structure: 5 minutes warm-up each session doing nothing but the routine without focusing on score. Play “Routine or Reset”: if the sequence breaks, restart the throw entirely.
