Use of Journals

Objective: Develop self-awareness, ownership, and accountability in players.

Coach Delivery Method:

1. Introduce Journals as a Tool

  • Explain it’s not homework — it’s a performance mirror.

  • Stress that honest entries matter more than perfect writing.

2. What to Record

  • Wins and losses (include opponent’s level if known).

  • Number of darts thrown per leg/set.

  • Practice drills completed and success rates.

  • Thoughts and feelings before, during, and after play.

3. Coach Review

  • Read journal highlights in debriefs — don’t just glance.

  • Look for recurring patterns in confidence, errors, or fatigue.

4. Extra Tip

  • If players struggle with writing, allow voice notes or short video logs.
