Percentage Routes vs. Creative Routes

KEY CONCEPTS :

What Are They?

Percentage Routes:
The mathematically optimal route to finish based on averages and most likely scoring outcomes.

Creative Routes:
Alternative routes that might suit a player’s rhythm, eye-line, or mental comfort.

Why Are They Important?

Percentage routes maximize chances of finishing.

Creative routes help maintain flow and confidence under pressure.

DETAILS :

1. Start with Percentage Play

Example: On 96, standard is T20 → D18.
On 110: T20 → 18 → D16.

2. Introduce Creative Options
Example: Some players on 96 go T19 → D20 for a better visual.

3. Discuss Situational Play
Match Context:
Do you need to guarantee a dart at a double or go for a big finish?

Opponent Pressure:
If opponent is on a big score, play safe; if they're on a finish, risk it.

4. Practice Method
Decision-Making Drill:
Present a number and ask players to explain their route choice.

Alternate Route Practice:
Finish 10 legs using only non-standard routes to build flexibility.
